Songs and lyrics

So TheHusband is sitting at his computer playing random mp3's. He just played Come Sail Away by Styx.

I shocked TheHusband (and myself) by knowing all the lyrics to that song.
People who know me well will find it astounding that I actually know the lyrics to any song, much less a song that was once popular. I am horrible at remembering lyrics. I can't even remember the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner, which is just an example of the pathetic-ness of that part of my brain. I will note that for years I thought that the line went "I'm sailing away, set an open course for the emergency" which just tells you how bad things can get...

I am also pretty much tone-deaf. I have been told on more than one occasion to stop singing, even by my husband. ThePinkThing likes the way I sing, but she seems (at least at this point) to have inherited my singing ability. The poor thing.

What random or obscure song lyrics do you remember?

Shit. Now he's playing Achy Breaky Heart. I will have to go over there and HIT him.

(Update #2 -- 11:15 pm)

He has now redeemed himself by playing Jambalaya by Boxcar Willie, which has chased Achy Breaky Heart out of my head. Yay!

You may end up hitting me. I can't think of "Come Sail Away" without instantly thinking of Cartman's version.

Sorry.

Eric, I hate you.

That is all.

"set an open course for the emergency"

Oh, that is TOO funny! And it made *perfect* sense...

I know all the words to Pink Cadillac. And can sing it while sober.

I have no idea why. I don't even really like the song.

Tania: maybe because Springsteen's a helluva lyricist even with his b-material?

Okay, so I'm a little bit of a fanboy....

There is a song by Til Tuesday(?) called Voices Carry. It was years before I realized that it was not He's So Scary.

And Come Sail Away is still stuck in my head. At least it isn't Achy Breaky Heart...

I can sing along with many of the top hits of the 70s (ok, so that dates me!). Not sure what you would class as random or obscure!

And then there are tv show theme songs. Serious ear worms. I won't give any titles so you won't be tempted to strangle me for planting ear worms in you.

This might not count...goes back to my early grade school days. "Sweet land of Liver Tea, of Thee I sing..."

And the Steve Miller Band's song, in which he sings of the "---- of love." What was that? Dave Barry wrote a thing about the word being "Pompatus." But what the heck is a pompatus of love? (g)

I could at one time recall verbatim quite a bit of early Simon & Garfunkel - mostly from the "Wednesday Morning 3 A.M." album, but also some from "The Sound of Silence". I suspect that, with a little effort, I could pull most of that back into memory.

I had to memorize Russian songs in my second year class. They're still in there, I sing them to the kids to irritate them (they hate when we speak languages they don't understand).

This is the song that the Katyusha rockets were named for:
