I am not sure what the long pointy thing is for, actually. The pointy end does not emit anything. When I rub it along something nothing comes out. It is too dull to cut anything, although it makes nice little holes in the flat white smooth rectangular objects that come out of a printer.
Maybe we need someone even older to tell us what it is...
Dunno...must have been used to poke holes in the telegrams? Maybe that was how you claimed your prize?
From the older but not necessarily wiser division!
PS- hey brudder, don't the parental units have similar items in boxes or the old file cabinet in the attic? And remind me to go check the attic when I'm home at Thanksgiving, don't remember if I had a chance to do it last year...

Say, what is that long pointy thing? Looks like some fab new technology -- could be useful.

The item is in remarkably good shape. Perhaps you should sell it at an antique auction? Does it still punch holes effectively, or is it broken now?
Well, at least its a nice, useful pen. Even if it doesn't write anymore, if provided an informative blog post!
The old man is on his way home from Roma a domani.
